Friction stir welding is an innovative welding process, which is carried out by solid means, without any addition of material. It gives the welds remarkable properties: excellent mechanical resistance, perfect sealing and reproducibility at low cost.
Applicable to all aluminum alloys, even those deemed unsolderable by liquid means, FSW (Friction Stir Welding) technology allows us to produce parts that were previously impossible. This mature industrial process is a technological breakthrough that opens the way to numerous applications: welding of cases, cold plates, reconstitution of very wide profiles, welding of aluminum alloys of the aero or foundry type, bimetallic welds.
We weld using our CNC machining centers which are equipped with a Stirweld welding head specifically designed for this purpose.
The welding head drives the rotation of a tool on which it exerts an axial force thus allowing the penetration of the end pin into the two materials to be welded, at the level of the weld joint. When the shoulder located above the pin comes into contact with the parts to be welded, the tool then advances by force in the weld joint, allowing the mixture of the two materials softened by the heat created by this force.
